Seattle Times - Seahawks Super Bowl Champs!

Seattle Times – Thursday, February 6, 2014

1    Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl Champions – A City Salutes Its Super Heroes
700,000 brave cold, gridlock to be part of the party

Main photo:  Parade float with Marshawn Lynch, Seattle Cheerleaders, and tons of fans surrounding the float.

This story took the majority of the front page.  It described how over 700,000 fans came from miles around to join in the celebration.  In addition, the story also provided a glimpse of the special feature inside.  This feature outlined the journey from the pre-season to the final down in Super Bowl 48.  Special interviews from players and coaches were also included.  Additionally, photos of the game, as well as your favorite players are also included in the special feature.

This story consumed the front page for obvious reasons.  This victory was huge for the team, the town and the state.

2     The second story on the front page covered high school football’s National  Signing Day.  On this day, high school seniors reveal where they will play their college football.   While not as big as a Super Bowl win, it is a distant second.  Alabama and LSU came away with the top recruiting classes in the country, while the popular PAC 12 team, Stanford, did well with the 14th best recruiting class.

This story, as mentioned earlier, is big news across the country because it gives a glimpse into the future of college football.  With the University of Washington and Washington State University in the area, everyone in Seattle wants to know where the top high school football talent in the country is going.  Unfortunately for UW and WSU, their recruiting classes were good…but not great.

The third area of interest on today’s front page is a booster for the upcoming 2014 National Flower and Garden Show.  No detail was given other than a prompt to buy tickets.

This was on the front page, as stated before, as a booster to buy tickets to the event.  The front page is prime real estate for promoting this type of event.

4      Finally, the weather was covered on the front page.  It is sunny and cold with a high of 30 degrees and a low of 22 degrees.

This made the front page because it provides a quick snapshot of the day’s weather.  Readers can dig further in section B12; however, a quick snapshot gives some readers all they need to know with respect to planning activities.
