Don Lyman -- Revised Lede Exercise

Original lede: With another child killed in Boston, officials, ministers, and activists are grappling with what, if anything, can be done to stop the shootings.

Revised lede: The scene is all too familiar. Another shooting. Another child dead in Boston. City officials and community leaders wondering yet again what, if anything, can be done to stop such tragedies.

I felt the original lede was kind of bland, like it was trying to be an anecdotal lede, but wasn't quite strong enough. To me it almost seemed like a subtitle to the headline. So, what I tried to do was change the wording a bit, and break it down into a series of short, direct sentences to try to give the lede a more punchy, immediate, pithy feel, and to capture the feeling of a tragic, yet all too familiar story.
