Kristina's Two Ledes - The Washington Post

1) "Americans thrive in 'new' Olympics" by Barry Svrluga and Rick Maese

Lede: Krasnaya Polyana, Russia - The first 48 hours of the Sochi Olympics brought some of the most traditional of scenes.

This lede could be better.  Based on our reading in the ledes packet, a headline is written as a billboard after the lede and story are written.  In this case, the lede and the headline do not seem to be tied together.  The lede doesn't mention anything 'new' in fact, in mentions the contrary by describing traditional scenes. The lede also does not mention Americans, which is the first word in the headline.

2) "A Senate bid that doesn't exist - yet - has N.H. abuzz" by Karen Tumulty

Lede: For the better part of a year, the most tantalizing question in New Hampshire politics has been: What the heck is Scott Brown up to?

The lede draws you in by not only asking a question, but also by describing the question as 'tantalizing,' which gives readers a reason to keep reading to find out what the answer is to the question. The lede accurately reflects the headline by discussing New Hampshire politics, and more directly unfurling information as to why New Hampshire is 'abuzz.'
