Kristina's Improved Lede - Washington Post

1) "Americans thrive in 'new' Olympics" by Barry Svrluga and Rick Maese

Original Lede: Krasnaya Polyana, Russia - The first 48 hours of the Sochi Olympics brought some of the most traditional of scenes.

With my Edits:  Jamie Anderson, slopestyle snowboarder for Team USA in Sochi, waved to cheering fans from on top of an Olympic podium adorning her new gold medal in one of twelve new sports added to this year's winter Olympic games.

I revised the lede to reflect some explanation of the headline, as to why the reader might think Americans are thriving in a 'new" Olympics.  I attempted to answer the question, "why are these Olympics 'new'?"

  1. I enjoyed the lede, Kristina. Maybe, consider breaking down the one long sentence--although the NYT would probably love it. Definitely, an improvement over the first--wish I could say the same for my rewrite. Best, ds
