As I was perusing the news today, I came across an
article from New Republic that I found particularly interesting considering our reading and discussion about objectivity and bias. In the article, titled “The New York Times Owes its Readers an Apology,” John B. Judis rebukes New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof for publishing
pieces of an open letter from Dylan Farrow accusing Woody Allen of molestation.
Kristof is a friend of Farrow’s mother, and, despite transparency in regards to that fact, Judis holds that Kristof could not possibly be objective.
The column, as Judis notes, is very one-sided, without giving the other side of the story, and there are no new facts to add to the discussion.
Six days later, the Times did publish a
response from Woody Allen.
Ah, Jennifer, the NYT has to do something to perk up circulation now and then.
