CNN Coverage of Malaysia Flight 370
Like the rest of the world, for the past two weeks I've been glued to reports about the missing plane and its passengers. I am curious what you all think about CNN's sensational televised coverage? They "report" on each and every speculation, as though it is news. Is it news?
Yet, I'm tuned in listening to it... What do you think?
I've been watching it too. I think it is news because everyone is trying to figure out what happened. The thought that someone on board may have caused this makes it even more frightening. I also look at the graphics provided (e.g., travel path, type of plane, etc.). I am definitely more observant of the conditions while flying (e.g., people, noises, etc.) - mostly due to the 9/11 attacks and stories like this. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good point, and I actually considered posting about it. I think it does at times turn into sensationalism. For many it is the big mystery to be solved rather than the human tragedy that it is. My editor wrote about it this week in her column if you'd like to see her thoughts: http://osv.cm/1jcfmtp.
